Hey friends,
What would you create, if you knew nobody would ever see it?
Would it change what you posted if you knew nobody could like or comment? Would you even post at all? Metrics can be useful for giving us insights into what’s working. Does our audience prefer photos that feature your adorable puppy, or massive biceps? But, getting too wrapped in the numbers does more harm than good. There are many other factors that affect how your content performs.
The results are always going to be inconsistent. And, if we let it dictate when and what we post, we’re going to be inconsistent, too.
Create like nobody’s watching... and you might be surprised how many do.
Know Your “Why”
“Those who have a ‘why’ can bear with almost any ‘how’.—Viktor E. Frankl
Meaning is one of the most important things we look for in life. Whether that’s in work, relationships or extracurricular activities, as individuals, we look to deepen the meaning we bring to and get out of experiences.
But how can you radiate meaning and value from your writing.
First, you have to know your ‘why.’ Why are you writing this post? Why does the content matter? Why does it resonate with you? Why will the audience value it? You can think of your ‘why’ as a motor in your boat. Usually, the motor is hidden below the vessel or in the back, out of direct view. It isn’t decorated or celebrated but when it stops working, you can instantly tell.
Your ‘why’ is the motor of your content giving it life, movement, and voice.
Practice
There’s a great saying, ‘if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.
If you are a content creator, you understand the importance of constantly flexing your writing muscles. Doing so helps you work through ideas that might be jumbled in your head and identify nuggets you could turn into fully realised ideas later. You might not always be inspired to write, but you know something inspiring can come from writing.
Get in the habit of creating content by doing it daily or every other day.
It doesn’t need to be 1000 words essay, rather its about setting aside 15 or 20 minutes to jot down thoughts and ideas.
What did you read yesterday that stuck with you? What didn’t you understand?
Bottom line
We’re never going to stick to something long-term that we don’t enjoy. So, if you want to create consistently, you have to find fulfilment in the process, not the outcome. Create because it’s fun.
Create because it helps people. Create because it gives you a sense of accomplishment.
Stay mindful,
