Hey friends,
Welcome to Patience Mindset. My name is Pách Deng and I’m a 27-year-old self-experimenter-writer with a double degree in Psychology and Sport Science. My mother migrated to Australia when I was 6 years old with my family to start a new life after living in a refugee camp as a result of war breaking out in Sudan.
I was born in a refugee camp in Kenya, raised in Adelaide, South Australia and now live in Melbourne with my family.
I’m currently a Mental Health Support Worker, private basketball coach and host of the ‘Patience Mindset’ podcast.
I grew up poor but that didn’t stop my mother from doing everything she can to give to provide us with a great childhood. As a single parent; my mother made sure we had everything, working two jobs to support the family. As a kid, growing up without a father was tough but it made me who I am as a man today. To me, mom is my superhero and role model, she’s the strongest woman I know. She constantly showed me ways to find the good in life, even when it was even hard to find it herself. I know being a single mom was difficult.
She made it look easy to balance a career, family, and being active in the community, even when I knew it wasn’t. Her selfless manner is one of the many reasons I will always look up to you. I truly believe that things happen for you — not against you.
There’s a great saying from Jean-Paul Sartre — Freedom is what you do with what’s been done to you.” I’ve learned no matter what happens to you, you always get to decide what happens next.
I’m passionate about sports, mental health wellness, education, self-improvement, and challenging yourself every day. I love reading books, especially crime fiction and philosophy — how to live better.
In my spare time, I enjoy coaching and playing sports; mainly basketball, mindfulness meditation, watching NBA, write and create videos.
In terms of interests, I’m obsessed with filmmaking, podcasts, food, technology and psychology.
I’ve journaling since I was 14-years-old, started blogging 5 year ago but just started my Substack journey in October 2023. I felt that my experiences offer me a unique perspective and would love to share that with all of you. I’m on a journey to make the world—just a little bit better. Please don’t ever hesitate to let me know your thoughts on anything.
I love feedback and connecting with others. I really love helping others so feel free to ask me any questions.
Thank-you!
—Pách
